Wellness
The Health and Counseling Center provides services and outreach programs which foster wellness as an expanded concept of health. The goal of such programming is the multifaceted advancement of personal, social, and environmental conditions which encourage to academic and social success. Health and wellness services support the learning mission by enhancing students' capability to be effective, engaged learners.
We often think of health as being just the absence of physical disease. Optimal health encompasses physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, interpersonal, social, and environmental well-being. The health and wellness initiatives are targeted to development outcomes such as: healthy behavior, intellectual growth, enhanced self esteem, realistic self appraisal, clarified values, meaningful relationships, productive lifestyles, and independence. The intent of these initiatives is to create and implement programs and outreach activities to respond to the unique needs of UNC Asheville students which encourage the overall well being of students and address the cultural, gender, religious, ethnic, and developmental needs of all students.
Wellness is a dynamic process of becoming aware of and making conscious, informed choices to create a more balanced and healthy lifestyle. Learn more about wellness and how to apply these principles to your own life!
