Counseling Services

Counseling Services are provided free of charge to all registered UNC Asheville students. Services include individual counseling, group counseling, emergency services and outreach programs. Counseling Services is located on the first floor of  Weizenblatt Health Center across from the Sherrill Center.

The counseling process generally begins through an initial meeting with a Counseling Services staff member to assess current stressors and difficulties and to establish goals for counseling. Intake assessments are usually 50 minutes in length, where a counselor will help guide you through this process to clarify your concerns and determine what course of treatment may be most appropriate for you. Our center works from a solution-focused, brief counseling model. You and your counselor can work together to find what services may be most effective for your needs. Recommendations may include individual counseling, group therapy, biofeedback services, or other on-campus resource. If Counseling Services cannot provide the specialized services you need, we will assist you in connecting with a provider in the community that will be a more appropriate fit. *Please note that we do not have regular walk-in clinic hours during summer semesters.*

Counseling sessions are free of charge. If you must miss a scheduled appointment, we request that you notify us 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule so that another student may seek assistance in your stead. If you choose not to cancel or reschedule, multiple missed appointments may begin to impact your eligibility to access individual ongoing counseling services. You will always be eligible to engage in emergency services and group counseling appointments. Different groups are formed each semester, with topics specifically tailored to current student need and/or request.
